Saunas have long been used to cleanse the body, alleviate stress, and enhance overall well-being.
Saunas offer many health benefits including:
relaxation,
reduction in chronic pain and muscle tension,
improved stress management,
better blood pressure management,
improved heart health,
improved sleep,
and are now being recognized as an effective, natural form of cancer therapy.
Traditional Sauna vs. Infrared Sauna
Saunas use steam or heat to create an environment that raises the core temperature of your body causing you to sweat and your heart rate to increase, which will cause more blood to be pumped to your skin.
Sweating is your body’s way of cooling itself. When you sweat toxins, heavy metals, and other impurities are excreted and eliminated.

Unlike traditional saunas that heat the surrounding air, infrared saunas utilize infrared light to heat your body directly, while the air around you remains constant, while still experiencing detoxification, improved circulation and immune system functioning.
Infrared therapy is like a type of “fever treatment” to therapeutically activate the immune system into high gear to fight cancer.
Infrared saunas use infrared wavelengths to penetrate the skin, offering a deeper and more direct form of warmth, but operate at a lower temperature. This lower temperature can be more tolerable for individuals who struggle with the intense heat of a regular sauna. As a result, your core temperature rises without needing to sit in a room with a temperature of around 200℉. This temperature is more pleasant for some people than a typical sauna.
Infrared saunas aren’t one-size-fits-all. Some of the most common you can come across include far infrared, near infrared, full spectrum infrared saunas.

Far Infrared Saunas primarily target body detoxification through improved circulation. Far infrared waves are the longest wavelength and penetrate the body, reaching the muscles and tissues. These wavelengths help to increase circulation, promote relaxation, and reduce inflammation. Far infrared saunas are also believed to aid in detoxification by encouraging the body to sweat out toxins.2,3
Near-Infrared Saunas promote wound healing and cellular health through improved circulation. Near-infrared waves are the shortest wavelength and penetrate the shallowest into the body, reaching the skin and subcutaneous tissues. Near-infrared light stimulates collagen production, improves circulation, and reduces inflammation. This can help promote wound healing, improve skin health, and aid in overall muscle recovery.
Full-Spectrum Saunas are a mix of both, offering the best of both worlds. Full-spectrum saunas emit all three wavelengths of infrared light: near, mid, and far. This provides many health benefits, including detoxification, improved circulation, reduced inflammation, and enhanced wound healing.
How Does Infrared Sauna Therapy Help Treat Cancer?

Numerous research studies support the benefits of infrared therapy improving human health. In a clinical trial published in 2009 in the Journal of Cancer Science and Therapy, researchers explored the effects of infrared heat treatment on cancer cells. In just 30 days, the mice tumor mass decreased by 86 percent.
In another study9, Japanese researchers found that whole-body infrared hyperthermia significantly slowed the development of breast cancer tumors with no adverse side effects.
According to researchers, whole-body infrared hyperthermia is a viable noninvasive brain cancer therapy.9
Not only does the infrared sauna therapy confront poisonous and cancerous cells, but it also restores and regenerates our bodies at the cellular level.
Infrared therapy creates hyperthermic action. Hyperthermia happens when bodily tissues are subjected to high temperatures. Because high temperatures attack weaker cells while leaving healthy tissue unharmed, infrared is an ideal cancer combatant.

Regular use of an infrared sauna improves blood circulation, the thermal radiation penetrates deep into the body, improving cellular health due to improved circulation.
Because circulation is improved, the red blood cells are filled with oxygen and the freshly oxygenated hemoglobin rushes throughout our bodies, increasing energy within the cells, promoting tissue repair, better metabolic activity, and killing cancer cells because cancer cells cannot live in highly oxygenated conditions.
Regular use of an infrared sauna is linked to reversing malignant cell growth because it stimulates “heat shock” proteins on the surface of cancer cells, making them more recognizable to the immune system. This triggers our killer immune system (macrophages, dendritic cells, and T cells) to attack and destroy abnormal cells.
By gently heating the body, infrared heat enables individuals to stay in the sauna for extended periods and even allows at-risk groups to participate in this therapy.
As an added bonus, the red light of infrared saunas stimulate collagen and elastin production, thereby enhancing skin tone and elasticity.

Pointers to Get the Most out of Infrared Therapy
When using infrared therapy there are a few things to remember to maximize the treatment:
Hydrated well before and after the treatment: Just like you want to be well hydrated before exercising, likewise with infrared therapy it is imperative to be well hydrated before a treatment. Drink plenty of pure, clean water with one or two crystals of Celtic salt before your treatment. Also drink during and after treatment.
Keep head cool: Some people can tolerate the treatment better if their head is kept cool.
Balance check: Some people may experience lightheadedness after sauna treatments. Try keeping head cool throughout treatment to decrease the likelihood of this symptom. Hold on to things when getting out of the sauna to avoid falling or collapsing.
Keep first sessions brief: If you’ve never used a sauna before, work up your tolerance. It is crucial at the beginning to keep sessions brief (10-15 minutes) using the lowest heat setting and gradually build up tolerance to avoid overheating as your body acclimates. It’s essential to gauge your body’s response after each session and adjust as necessary.
End treatment with cold: When infrared treatment is completed, take a cold plunge or cold shower. This will further activated the killers T cells of your immune system to get rid of the now very recognizable “heat shock” proteins on the cancer cells.
Get professional advice: If you’re undergoing treatment or have a history of cancer, always consult with your healthcare professional before starting infrared sauna therapy sessions.
Infrared sauna therapy is simple and safe. According to an article published in the International Journal of Biometeorology, materials emitting electromagnetic energy in the far-infrared range can stimulate leukocyte functions without boosting oxidative injury.10 Because of the selective toxicity that infrared sauna treatment exerts on cells, they are particularly promising for cancer therapy. Infrared hyperthermia impacts are detrimental to malignant cells, while normal healthy cells are strengthened.
With infrared sauna therapy, you are basically providing a one-two punch; selectively destroying and removing cancer cells by subjecting your body to infrared heat without harming your healthy cells thanks to their internal heating mechanism and the sweat they generate.11

Poor blood circulation is often associated with cancer, and an infrared sauna can help by promoting improved blood flow and oxygenation throughout the body. This improved circulation supports detoxification, cellular repair and regeneration of healthy cells; key components of any holistic cancer treatment plan.
