The Healing Power of Family and Togetherness

ree

Today we celebrate the birthday of our son, Aaron Mitchell. He is turning 39 years old. He has lived life with purpose, humility, and lots of heart.

As the pastor of the thriving Concho Baptist church in Coleman, Texas, he leads with quiet conviction and a calm spirit that draws people in. His ministry is growing, not because he seeks attention, but because he offers something rare: steady love, deep wisdom, and a gentle presence that comforts and uplifts. His ministry is more than sermons and worship services; it’s a living testimony of love, humility, and service. He daily connects with God, and is therefore able to walk beside others — guiding, comforting, and inspiring with a calm spirit.

Aaron is married to Jodee, his steadfast partner in life and faith. Together, they’ve built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and purpose. Their 9-year-old daughter, Kinli, is a radiant reflection of their love — curious, adventurous, athletic, and creative. Watching Aaron father her is like watching a craftsman at work: patient, intentional, and deeply devoted.

He’s a man passionate about food, not just the act of preparing food, but the joy of gathering people around a table. He’s deeply invested in youth events, always finding ways to connect with the next generation. He loves animals too, with a horse and three dogs that seem to understand they belong to someone special.

One cherished moment was a three-generation fishing trip with Aaron and Jodee, Marty, and Grandpa West casting lines side by side. In a twist of fate, it was Jodee who reeled in the biggest fish of the day!

Aaron’s temperament is phlegmatic: calm, gentle, and unshakably steady. Aaron is a quiet anchor, simply showing up, day after day, with love in his heart and peace in his soul. Whether he’s preaching a sermon, flipping pancakes, or baiting a hook, he brings the same quiet strength to everything he does.

We are so proud of the man he is, Aaron Mitchell: son, husband, father, pastor, and friend. You are a gift to all who know you, and your life is a reflection of God’s grace. Happy 39th birthday. May this year bring even more joy, adventure, and God’s richest blessings poured out upon you.

Aaron’s life is a beautiful example of how family and faith intertwine to create something nourishing. Spending time with loved ones isn’t just emotionally fulfilling, it’s a powerful contributor to physical and mental health. Togetherness builds resilience, reduces stress, and even helps us live longer.

Emotional and Mental Health Benefits of Togetherness

  • Reduces stress and anxiety: Meaningful family interactions can lower cortisol levels, helping us feel calmer and more secure.

  • Boosts happiness and self-esteem: Feeling loved and supported by family contributes to a stronger sense of identity and emotional stability.

  • Improves resilience: Families help us navigate life’s challenges, offering perspective, encouragement, and a safe space to grow.

Physical Health Benefits

  • Encourages healthier habits: Families who eat together tend to consume more fruits, vegetables, and nutrient-rich foods; especially children.

  • Establishes better morals and reduces risky behaviors: Teens who regularly engage in family meals are less likely to use tobacco, alcohol, or drugs.

  • Promotes longevity: Strong social ties, especially within families, are linked to longer life expectancy and better overall health.

“Family” doesn’t have to be defined by blood. Close friends, mentors, chosen loved ones, church or community members can offer the same benefits of connection and support. What matters most is the quality of the bond; the shared laughter, listening, and love.

So whether it’s a meal shared, a walk in the park, or a spontaneous phone call, make time for togetherness and experience how your “health can spring forth speedily.” Isaiah 58:8.
