As promised, in this blog we will show you a simple hydrotherapy treatment you can do at home. If you missed part 1, click HERE
Hot compresses can be made from towels or fomentations. Begin by placing a wrung out wet towel (fomentation) in a plastic grocery store bag and wrap tight. Next, put it in the microwave for approximately seven (7) minutes. Then alternate hot compress with cold friction (rubbing a cold, wet washcloth or mittens) over the area where the hot compress is placed. This treatment can be used to help alleviate congestion, fight local infections, boost the immune system by stimulating increased blood circulation, mobilize white blood cells to fight infection, and increase sweating for toxin elimination.Â
This treatment is contraindicated in individuals with active bleeding, paralysis, or who are unconsciousness. If you have had a heart attack, place an ice bag over the heart area before hot compresses are laid on your chest. Use common sense. Be gentle with impaired circulation or impaired sensibility. Communicate with the person being treated to avoid burning and chilling. Bony places burn easily.
