Merry Christmas!
As promised, I will share with you the poem Marty wrote the first Christmas after our daughter, Dawn, passed away.
Dawn was a very joyous child who loved the festivities of Christmas. When we would enter grandma’s house or other places of festive cheer, Dawn would throw her arms wide open and exclaim, “Merry Christmas, everybody!”
Dawn had many nicknames, and everyone had to have their own for her. Marty called her his “Bear”, his “Munch”, and “Precious Dawn”.
For those who knew her, grab a tissue, here we go.
“Merry Christmas, everybody!” To this Don West bunch,
Laughing, talking, and grinning from ear to ear,
Afterall, it’s Christmas,
One of Dawn’s “favorite” times of year.

We should remember Jesus,
And the gift Has gave to us,
But sometimes forget the facts
in all the worldly fuss.
There are lights, ornaments,
Music and food,
Joyful things
For a Christmas mood.
Christmas is a time of year
For happiness, thankfulness, and fun.
Yet just planning for it
can keep us on the run.
This year will be the same,
But with a twist;
There is no Dawn Ashlee,
Oh how she is missed.
We plan, we stress, we buy
All in the name of Christmas.
By why?
Tearing open gifts
With paper and bows everywhere.
Wow, this is great,
But where is my Bear?
We have great pleasure
Giving to the ones we love,
So just imagine
The Father up above.

Long ago, Jesus came and died,
That our lives might go on.
A chance for you, a chance for me,
And a chance for my precious Dawn.
We’ve come from far and near,
Yes abroad we are scattered.
Yet we’re all here, but one,
Which leaves me torn, broken and tattered.
“Merry Christmas, everybody!” To this Don West bunch,
A wish that rings in my ears,
Now that’s a God-given gift
From my Munch.”
Merry Christmas!
From Marty, Dana, Alexis and Eden
